Contribution of Benchtop NMR Spectroscopy to the Identification of Unknown Liquids Separated by Fractional Distillation

Fractional distillation is part of the essential experimental techniques taught to first-year chemistry students, especially during practical organic work. The characterization distillate generally involves measuring boiling temperature, refractive index, or infrared spectrum. In this paper, an unknown mixture composed two solvents given students in order be separated by fractional and characterized. To perform task, benchtop 1H NMR spectroscopy was introduced complement other analytical methods familiarize with technique while implementing their reasoning abilities.
